College Blowout

My son, who got 5's on his AP Calc and Physics tests, went to college last year and spent his time online instead of studying. He has now lost his scholarship and is on academic probation. He doesn't seem to care or have any views about his future. He is not depressed and does not drink or take any drugs. He only says that last year was "too fun". Spring semester was worse than Fall. We don't know what to do about next year. He's brilliant but immature. Any thoughts or ideas?

A great new blog on post secondary transition

I invite you to check out my exciting new blog, Conquer College with LD/ADD, at http://www.conquercollegewithld.com

Since 1993, my exclusive focus as a Learning Specialist has been the critical high school-to-college transition for students with learning disabilities. I am passionate about seeing an increase in the postsecondary success rate for this cohort, as I raised a son who graduated college successfully and feel that many of our students are failing unnecessarily.

If you are the parent of a high school teen with learning challenges, subscribe to my listserve and receive a FREE 55-page downloadable E-Book, Interactive Academic Websites (for high school and college students), that helps make students active learners and studying less tedious.

Hope to see you there!

Joan M. Azarva, Ms.ED
Expert College Learning Specialist

About the Autism Hangout Education Section

How to Assemble and Post an Online Program.

Did you know that - due to required time off work, cost/availability of childcare and money in general - less than 2% of the autism community can attend an autism conference? Yet these conferences are where much of today's current thought on autism comes to light. Wouldn't be GREAT if there was a way to capture the videos and Powerpoint presentations of those presenters and bring them to the other 98% of us that can REALLY use the information?

Well, NOW that's possible!!.

If you are an autism expert, a conference speaker, a researcher, a teacher/educator with a "best practice", a medical professional with a key learning or a parent with some special insight...

Here is the place to share your knowledge with the autism world.

Using a simple software program from vcasmo.com, it's now possible to quickly prepare online Video + Powerpoint Programs. It is equally as fast to post these programs here at Autism Hangout for distribution to the global autism community.

I've prepared two short video tutorials: The first is on How to Prepare and Post an Online Program in 10 Easy Steps. Find that here: http://www.vcasmo.com/video/Autismhangout/6518

The second is on how to place your Program into the Autism Hangout Education Catalog. That program is here: http://www.vcasmo.com/video/Autismhangout/6660

Both are very easy to watch and use the same medium (VCASMO) you will be using to present your knowledge! You can also print out the pages for future reference.

Don't worry... if I can do it, anyone can! I hope you will take a few moments to share your learning experiences with those coming after you... and those that can benefit from your knowledge right now. [:)]

Note too that the Autism Hangout Education Catalog makes it possible for you to get paid for your knowledge. It isn't much, but it will help you recover some of the costs of your labor.

The bottom line is this: Knowledge IS power! The more current learning we can share on autism, the more we can all thrive with the condition!
