In two GREAT categories no less!  One with a couple of well-know names in autism (Dr. Stephen Shore and Donna Williams), an the other about a delightful young lady whose name we will soon know just as well (Sydney!).

Both these shows are NOT TO BE MISSED! (Don't worry... they will be recorded for later viewing if you can't make it "live").

WEBINAR Series: Thriving with Autism

Monday, October 26th - 6-7:30A CDT

Meet Dr. Stephen Shore and Donna Williams... two AMAZING people on the spectrum; one a PhD, the other a singer/songwriter/author/screenwriter - both diagnosed as severly autistic in youth (the doctors suggested institutionalization). More living proof how people with autism can "thrive!"

WEBINAR Series:  Hot Off The Press!

Wednesday, October 28 - 12-1P CDT

Filmmaker Melanie Levy will be premiering clips from her powerful documentary, "My Name is Sydney."  Meet the charming, talented, witty young Sydney.  Melanie has captured an amazing story.

Again, not to be missed!

Other Autism Hangout Programs

And if you haven't yet seen reporter Mark Wirbel's thoughtful commentary on H1N1 vaccinations, you might want to review it... before you act.

As a parent of a child on the spectrum, Mark is keenly aware of the inherent risks associated with vaccines. In this very candid report, Mark shares his concerns.

If you too have an opinion, please share it in the Autism Hangout Discussion Forum linked to this report.

"Can The World Afford Autistic Spectrum Disorder?" - A Book by Dr. Digby Tantam

Dr. Digby Tantam is one of the world's leading authorities on Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger's syndrome. In his newest book - "Can The World Afford Autistic Spectrum Disorder?"- his provocative title is not focused on the financial implications of autism.. but rather on the value of the contributions those with the condition can make to society ("we desperately need them!").

In this positive book, Dr. Digby also believes whatever debilitation is associated with Asperger's is less about the personal affects of the condition, but more about how poorly society accommodates them.

Selecting Caregivers and Therapists for a Child with Autism

Selection of the best caregivers and therapists for a child with autism is dependent upon a number of variables. The ones we find most predictive of success are experience, education and fit with the child's personality and learning style.

Mae Wilkinson provides tips and a sample scorecard for evaluating the relative strengths of one caregiver/therapist against another. The Scorecard is found here.

Ask Dr. Tony" on Girls with Asperger's

Dr. Tony Attwood returns to talk about Girls with Asperger's.

In this report, Dr. Tony feels the 4:1 (boys to girls) ratio is inaccurate... he believes the actual ratio to be closer to 2:1. He calls out several reasons why girls are usually not diagnosed until later on in life.

Dr. Tony also shares positive news such as Girls with Asperger's success in the workplace and he suggests several possible career paths. Dr. Tony is now organizing a 1-day workshop on Girls with Asperger's. Stay tuned for updates!

Aspergers On the Job. Meet Author Rudy Simone

Autism author, advocate and individual on the spectrum, Rudy Simone visits with Craig Evans about her latest book: Aspergers On the Job.

This book, written for employers, HR professionals and people with autism details Aspergian behavior and provides clear direction for how these valuable employees - with understanding and facilitation - can succeed in the workplace.

Lots of GREAT, POSITIVE things happening in the world of autism.  Come share your journey and stories with other folks like you at Autism Hangout.

Regards,
