About Autism Hangout FEATURE PROGRAMS:
FEATURE PROGRAMS are a series of ongoing, continually updated, autism topics (i.e. "Key Learnings," "Beyond the Headlines", "Moving Out" or Featured Guests).
They are prepared by Autism Hangout Staff Reporters. We’ll keep on top of trends in the news as well as Autism Hangout’s Discussion Forums so you can quickly find the latest, current thinking on the topics and challenges that we face daily.
All Feature Programs have links to threads in the Discussion Forum (if you'd care to share your experience or insights with others).

CEO Dan Selec gives an update on nonPariel - A "Movin' Out" Feature Program
| |
Dan Selec's nonPariel is now at 50 students and 7 residents! And more growth is planned.
The venture's goal remains true: To assist people on the spectrum through education, work training and assisted living. The by-products of increased self-esteem and potential independence are just icing on the cake. :)

More From this Feature Program
|
Dan Selec is a man with vision, on a mission. He has conceived a Dallas-based school for kids at all levels of autism that first trains, then prepares them for careers. He then sees the school finding them work and, if needed, provides long-term housing. Dan has the motivation and connections.
It's a big idea, one that will definitely help our special kids "thrive with autism!" Go Dan!!

Two years ago I started this Autism Hangout Feature Program Series knowing, one day, we would face this decision... is our son ready? Can he enter the real world? Well that day arrives this month. We've FOUND a group home for Nolan! And he's ELATED at the opportunity!
Have you ever felt excited, then fearful, then excited, then tearful all within 3 seconds? It can happen! But the opportunity for our son's independence is worth any trial we might face. And there are some hurdles to jump. Here's a great opportunity for you to go to school on us.
I'm planning on interviewing our social worker, a couple of group home owner/operators, some group home residents and (possibly) an attorney that helped up navigate these moving waters. It's a good story. There are good people and encouraging news all along the way.
I'm hoping this series helps calm some of your fears while elevating your level of excited anticipation for your special child's independence day!

He's doing fine. He's past some major sensory issues, but his anxiety is high. The doctor had some good news for us. :)
