Zhang Lab Research at U of Minnesota

Wednesday, March 03, 2010 @12:07:00 PM

Hi everyone!

We are researchers (undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty) in Zhang Lab at the University of Minnesota's Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences department.  Our lab is currently doing brain imaging (EEG) research on a variety of people to investigate how language is processed in the brain.  We received an Autism Initiative Award from the Department of Pediatrics at the University and a Brain Imaging Research Award from the College of Liberal Arts that fund our research work.  We are now searching for both children and adults with autism to participate in one of our studies.  Participants in this study will watch video clips and listen to audio dealing with number and speech processing.  For example, in one of the experiments participants might hear a sentence like "Mary ate three cookies," and then see a photo with five cookies.  They would then hit a button for either a "match" or a "mismatch."  Other experiments, geared towards children, do not require any response.  Some of them just require participants to pay attention to a movie while sounds are played to them over loudspeakers.

We have a lot of information about this and all of our research at http://zhanglab.wikidot.com/current_studies

All of our research flyers and information about the studies are on this website, as well as a picture slide show of our lab and previous participants.  We pay participants for their help and the experiment scheduling is very flexible, including nights and weekends.

If anyone is interested in participating or has any questions, please feel free to ask!  We can be contacted at zhanglab@umn.edu and we will also be checking this website regularly.

Thank you!

- Zhang Lab
