A star is born

Thursday, December 30, 2010 @2:02:58 AM

Imagine if you will I am perched on top of the world. I am standing at the  peak of the Himalyans and in my right hand sits a 5 pointed star.

Here lies a wish I am prepared to release to the world as I stare into 2011 and watch it dawn upon me its consciousness. I am set to loosen its contents while I am still presently standing in 2010. The intent is to return 366 days later and do an 180 degree turn and observe it fulfillment.

The 5 points correspond to different factions within the ASD, ( Autism Spectrum Disorders community). and collectively the star represents a very bright anmd luminous awareness shown upon the world. We on the spectrum mean a great deal but we are not recognized for that yet. Accent on the word yet. In this year we might if perhaps these wishes were to be realized collectively.

1)  Those with classic Kanners Autism. My wish is for us all to be able to understand the gifts that they represent, the high degree of spiritual vibration that they operate on and how this can be captured in language and understood. That their observations can be appreciated on a level that allows us to rethink that their understanding of life is "dis abled".

2)  Those in the education community. My wish is to be able to accept that we are addressing a population that is struggling to understand  who we are and the ultimate challenge is to arrive at an identity that is arrived at jointly. Not defined by professionals and powerfully urged that we accept an outside conception of who we are. All development is enhanced by a clear understanding of self.

3) Those who are in the clinical community. Autism has no business in the axis 2 region. It is ridiculous to think that we are mysterious and uncurable. There is a parallel pervasive lack of development in the imagination of clinicians as to nature of the Autistic mind. We are not Unidentified Extraterestial Aliens. It is not that difficult to perceive the nature of our minds. Two approaches would go a long way: The development of language and self expression -and- a development of a Theory of Mind. These two things can be easily taught and learned.

4) Those in the world of commerse. ASD's is a gift. People on the spectrum possess tremendous gifts that can truly enhance your company. We simply need a few accomadations. It bears repeating the trite admonition that we are differently abled and not dis abled. Truly the investment in us would quickly bear  a profit. Trust me on that. As with so many things the courage of one company prepared to employ us in significant numbers would demonstrate to all the benefits. Are you that company.

5) Those of us with Asperger's Syndrome and High Functioning Autism. People most dear to me for I am in this catergory. we are not last. We might be tempted to often think of self as such because we are so often misunderstood. Bear in mind our depression is affected by an interpretation of reality dictated to us by people who are biologically created to see the world wholly different than we do. Mental health will ultimately be a function of our collective ASD determination of what is real to us. We are depressed often because we accept our individual interpretations of things are flawed, however when I am with my Aspie brethren I am quickly confronted with the reality that there is strength in our collective view of realtiy.  Acceptance and affirmation, even if they are bourne from the self is the eternal and emotional womb by which love is conceived. This needs to be our daily affirmation.

There you have it. A moving sphere accross the mid winter 's noir canvas. Reflect upon how you can see your outline in the snow. It is the after image of a spark of illumination. But like all inspiration it needs our continious dedication to its conceived meaning in order for it to cast a awareness upon the shadows in our doubts/fears/ignorance.
