The running of the bulls

Monday, December 06, 2010 @10:48:31 AM

As we progress our way through the holiday shopping season it is important to remember to be sensitive to our needs when it comes to store ettiquite.

In their deal to make a sale anc come accross super social and warm, I htink many department store sales representative over do it as far as Aspies and the rest of us on the spectrum is concerned.

I have walked into stores and sales people walk right up to me on the third step into the store, my eyes have not even had enough time to adjust to indoor lights and the make up of the store interior design. These individual are so open loud in their greeting. As I said earlier I do not even know how to respond to how are you doning so when they are actually expecting me to match their holiday cheer, their exuberance actually might make me be more honest and tell them that I am feeling down or grumpy-as I have actually been feeling lately.

I am not as likely to react in a meltdown in these incounters but I sure can imagine one of my ASD brethren can. So I am hoping this style of aggressive sales albeit it as kindly intended as they are, can be toned down, because it is alot for us to adjust to. It is adding to the stress and not subtracting from our stress level.

Some of them are too eager to make a sale. There are times when I haven't even had a chance to glance around the store yet when one of them steps infront of me. They should wait a few minutes and let people browse first then ask.
