Being mute most of the day...

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 @2:16:25 PM

For much of today, I have really not had any "cognitive will to speak". I am simply withdrawn into myself. This afternoon, I have tried an experiment. I drove over to a medical supply store in Nashua, NH 18 miles west of Salem where I live, & for the 1st time, purchased a pair of forearm crutches for myself. With the crutches, as a natural/normal (for me) toeing-in walker, walking a distance of 1,500+ yards, I experienced far less "discomfort" & muscle/joint/bone pain, than ""walking without crutches" for distances > 300+ yards. They will also help, when needing to stand long periods of time whenever away from home, doking video shoots, & other things.

Have had trouble with toeing-in walking for decades, as an autistic, but since learning more "sel bodily awareness", I decided to "take care of this, instead of "letting it slide", for decades, & ignoring what my lower body was telling my brain. Also helpful with maintaining balance, & not tripping over myself.

I'm glad you took care of that Tommy. I am also really glad it is helping.

I use a cane, walker or shopping cart to help with balance, cause I never know when I'm going to have problems with it.

I can also use that walker as an impromptu shopping cart...LOL

HI Tommy,
My daughter who is blind, and has Asperger Syndrome, uses a white cane whenever she is out of the house. But she also has balance and muscle fatigue problems because she has scoliosis caused by mild cerebral palsy. I am thinking of having an orientation and mobility specialist, one who might have experience with older people with balance problems, evaluate her situation. Your blog encouraged me to get going on that. White canes for blind people are designed to give a lot of audio and tactile feedback, not for support or balance.

Lydia
