Hope for families dealing with Autism

Sunday, February 15, 2009 @7:41:46 AM

This was one of the toughest weeks I have ever had in my adventure of Autism advocacy. A people calling me to tell me the new autism insurance law in Illinois does not have teeth to make insurance companies follow the rules, having to give up getting some of Tanners medicines ( no money), Dr. Wakefield being attacked, and the devastating blow (although expected) from the vaccine court ruling. I do not know about you but I was actually paralyzed for a few days. I managed to respond to a few twitter comments but the energy to post a blog was not there.
Many titles and topics passed through my head. Thoughts of throwing in the towel, closing down the site, shrinking back into obscurity, and ending it all. Then that is what I realized the mainstream medical, the government, and big pharma want parents to do. They want us just to go away. Well you know what after a week of crying on my pillow, I am back larger than life. My vision is stronger. My resolution is greater. My love for parents, children, caregivers, and families dealing with Autism is everlasting.
I saw the movie Fireproof last weekend. It is a must see in my book for all adults. It looks at the way we all should treat each other. Our recession is going to be toughest on our families. We need to treat each other better. We need to say "I love you" loud and clear. We need to remember that the silent ones in our house do have very good hearing. Be brave. Be positive. Be proactive. Be longsighted. Be long winded. This is the marathon of all marathons. Although this again is not a dress rehearsal, we must master every moment. Savor all senses. You must smell your situation, see your situation, feel your situation, hear your situation, taste your situation, and document your situation. No matter what the world tells you. Your story is unique unto you but in truth our situations together build a case that will be ruled in our favor here or in heaven.
I offer my blog, my email, my phone, my time, my energy, my heart to any parent out there that needs to vent due to the tough times we faced this week and the tough times ahead. This is not the time to shrink off the may. Our children deserve better. We must educate the world that ten year old children with Autism are not to be arrested but need to be loved. It is societies job to learn how to deal with them. Society needs to do that now. All my love. I pray that you are able to fireproof your marriage, bulletproof you business, and devil proof your life. Amen

What can you do today...

If you are a parent... Love your child unconditionally. Do not let your child feel they are any less because they cannot communicate the way we do or look after themselves. Do not forget to look after yourself and your significant other. ( If you don't have one find one...There is someone out there for everyone. You deserved to be loved also). Join a church. Speak to your friends. Keep up the good fight.

If you are Friend... If you have resources please consider supporting Generation Rescue as they move the agenda towards services and support programs. If you do not have financial resources provide respite services... Babysit, go with a parent to the grocery store, or running errands. Be there to listen.

If you are in the medical community it is time to wake up and do something...
If you are in the insurance industry it is time to make the people responsible pay...
if you are in the media it time to tell the truth...
If you are in the government it is time act...
If you are in education it is time to educate...
If you are in a religious community it is time to rally the troops to support families...

If you are in the New York City Office of Autism Speaks... remember that $50,000 you took from my community this fall could have helped to pay for my sons therapy this year.

If you are in contact with amanda peet and have a child with Autism invite her over to experience our lives first hand and but out of our childrens and the future of others children.

If you are impacted by autism (that means you are part of the human race) Join me in the fight. Join causecast with your own cause or mine. Make a difference in our world. now. State your change! Then make it happen.

If you happen to have some sleeping pills, sleep ideas for children with autism, or want to come spend the night let me know.... I need a nap.

Say a prayer for all those dealing or not dealing with their "Autism Like" conditions. Say a prayer for the Tavolta family may all their souls rest now...

If you are in the pharmaceutical industry it is time to pray...

People it is just time to deal with Autism....

There is great strength in you and your attitude, Tim. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
