Post Graduation

K's graduation day was like any other milestone in her life, touching and goofy at the same time. She had a dress on for the first time since I can remember (bike shorts underneath for good measure). She wasn't able to join the other graduates onstage because she scratched one of them during the rehearsal. I heard one verbal outburst but then she must have gotten it together. Seeing her with her cap and gown on brought a tear to my eye, especially when her teacher moved the tassels from one side to the other. Just like that, fifteen years of school, done.

Both of K's gradnmas showed up, sister and boyfriend, parents and their SOs, so I know K had the idea that something special was going on.

During the ceremony one graduate taped the whole thing from his Ipad, another gave an incoherent impromptu speech, and a third rolled back on his back.

Afterward we celebrated with cake and punch, and then I had to go back to work.

So now there are three years of vocational prep and then the rest of her life. Does anyone have adult children that are medium to low functioning that can describe their typical day?

At this point I don't see K functioning independently in a vocational setting. I would like for her to have some kind of part time job. Her dad jokes that she could be a product tester for a company that makes strong products (she breaks everything.)

Are there any creative services out there that will enhance adult lives? I figure now is the time to start looking into this topic.
