Great Visit

Thursday, April 26, 2012 @4:18:02 AM

I have been on a committee for the last few months that has made me cut down my visits from once a week to once every other week. I don't know if that is the reason, but going out with K has been way more fun. She is genuinely happy to see me. Yesterday her aide at the group home told me she only had one pair of pants that fit, so after our traditional Dairy Queen Blizzard stop (triple chocolate yesterday), we went to Target and chose three pairs of pants. She even tried a pair on! I jusst left them on here and bought them that way.

This summer I hope to expand our repertoire of things to do together and step up the frequency of my visits again. I'd welcome ideas of stuff to do in the northwest suburbs area.

Also, does any other paarent of a daughter with autism deal with weight gain and loss? K is up to a size 14 again. She has yoyoed 3 times, this is the 4th, from size 8 to 18.

Nolan has gone as high as 265 (on Abilify), down to 185. Then he slowly went back up to 210. That alarmed him. He said he felt better at 185. So he took it upon himself to monitor his food intake. He's never done that before. It was a HUGE move. He decided to eat only when he was hungry... not when bored, routine, etc.

He's been able to keep his weight around 180. But he's also gotten better about his exercise, too. I KNOW his ability to assert some control over himself and his situation has boosted his esteem.

But yes, in the case of Nolan, yo-yoing is NOT unusual. We keep all his clothes... just in case.
