"Developing College Skills in Students with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome"

Many of our special kids will have the chance to go to college. But as parents will tell you, getting in isn’t the only challenge… or, in some cases, the REAL CHALLENGE. Staying in school requires new skills. Learning and practicing the right skills and disciplines will assure our students a successful college experience. Today’s autism expert has just written the book on this subject. It’s called: Developing College Skills in Students with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome. Autism hangout pls welcome author Dr. Sarita Freedman.

Talk about timely! As I prepare for the annual "before school" orientation that I give (per IEP) to my son's new teachers (now grade 8) concerning his accommodations, his strengths and weaknesses and our concerns, chief area of contention is how disconnected the school system is in addressing pragmatic language, executive function and acceptable social conversation skills. Again and again, I hear, "There is nothing out there that is a "best practice" for the school district to follow that addresses ALLl these issues". Well, there is now. I plan on buying the book and informing my district of its availability.
