It is really great to see Autism Hangout begin to really blossom!! In the last week or so our membership has more than doubled. That's great!! Craig has really been working hard to add new RELEVANT content virtually every day. The "Key Learnings from Autism Thought Leaders" Pod Casts are really awesome. If you have not checked them out, I'd encourage you to do so ASAP!!

Being a person of curious nature... I was wondering how all of you good folks heard about Autism Hangout. Please let us know by replying to this post. Also don't forget to update your bio on your "My Hompage". Many of you have wisdom and insight that is really needed and appreciated in this community.

Welcome again to the new comers... have a seat... HANGOUT a while, and let's all help one another Learn, Share and Thrive!!

To answer the question of how I found this site............

I was actually looking for a place to blog or just share my thoughts for the day that was not a forum such as myspace or face book.....more of an artistic output, or journaling vehicle. I had just started an account with mybloglog.com and went to look at other blogs on the site and found an entry that had something to do with Asperger's Syndrome. Clicking on that link led me to autismhangout.com and I never went back to that initial page!! Thanks for being here, and a place to exchange information. I can't help but wonder with the attitude I sense from this site that it's creator must be a follower of Celestine Prophecy. If you don't understand that refference then I encourage you to read "The Celestine Prophecy" by James Reddfield. It's a must read for any human being, but extra helpful to those who experience diversity on the most close-hearted levels.

Live like there''s no tommorrow by making up for all your yesterdays TODAY! ----Miltay

Hi Miltay. I'm THRILLED you're here to create your blog! Yes, the Discussion Forum (to some degree, a social networking function) is a necessary part of Autism Hangout. I would like people to come in and discuss both issues ("how to live with autism") as well as concepts ("should we really require AS kids to conform to the present-day educational system"... see Emily Willingham's excellent video and commentary on this here:

http://www.autismhangout.com/forum/...TOPIC_ID=134

Although I've read the Celestine Philosophy (it was a few years ago), I'm afraid I'm not seeing/understanding the reference. I CAN tell you I DO believe people on the spectrum are individuals to be developed to THEIR maximum abilities (read: talents, gifts). I conducted a Podcast with Dr. Jane Brown yesterday evening and she was talking to me about one of the former presidents of the U of MN. She'd mentioned how aggressively he was moving the U to accept and develop students with AS. His thinking was "when they accept their Nobel Prizes, they will reference and thank the U of MN for giving them their educational foundation."

Now THAT's a philosophy I would like to groom HERE at Autism Hangout!

Thank you for being a part of it!

Craig Evans

I think I stumbled on the Autism Hangout as a link from another website. (Maybe the CEC smartbrief email) I don't know if it is set up this way, but if you look back, you will see that I am stopping by several times a day now. I have found a couple of blogs I want to follow. My suggestion for a "Thought Leader" would be Dr. Richard Solomon in Ann Arbor Michigan. www.aacenter.org. He has a program called the "play project" in which he trains folks to visit kids with autism at home. He bases his work on Stanley Greenspan's work. The "play project " might be an idea which could spread. Our daughter is too old for it, but it sounds interesting. However, she loves Dr. Solomon and he has been an encouragement to us, because he thinks our kid is wonderful. Lassie-Lydia

I just joined today. I found autism hangout when my friend yofia on twitter posted a quote from a forum here. My oldest daughter is 9, and has several different diagnoses (Sensory Processing Disorder, Sensory Modulation Dysfunction, Auditory Processing Disorder, and Developmental Dyspraxia) and some personality quirks (rigid thinking, lack of empathy, self absorption and lack of ability to see things from another perspective, lack of concern for self care tasks, difficulty with transitions) that have made me wonder if she has Aspergers. My husband has self diagnosed himself as an aspie adult, and the more we talk about how our daughter behaves now, the more he admits to thinking/acting in those same ways as a child. I do not know if her school will test her or if I need to seek out testing elsewhere. But I am wanting to be part of a forum where I can talk about my husband and daughter and my struggles to understand how to better relate to them.

I've just found this site and love what you are doing. I think I was doing a search on Temple Grandin and it came up. I loved your 10 mins with her, there was a lot of good stuff in that short time.

I believe I found this site from Dr. Attwood's site, and it has definitely been more fun than some other Aspie forums I have found, as those ones the people tend to talk too much in their own "forum language" and I can't figure it out. I love the blog part of this site, as I used to post on Facebook but unfortunately my friends don't understand AS much. I love the emphasis on thriving here rather than cures and causes as is on some websites, especially those catering to parents. I like to have the chance to talk with both people with autism and parents of those people, whereas most sites seem to be a bit segregated in that regard.

Hello everyone,
this seems to be the place to introduce myself, so:
I'm a 48 y-old Aspergirl from Europe and I am really glad that Craig created this place for us!
I look forward to browsing the archives and also to joining discussions with you :-)
