Does anyone else have a child who has an extreme sense of smell?
Our daughter was tube-fed for seven years because she couldn't eat enough to grow. At one point, all she ate was ice. Then eventually, she got onto m&m's. We though it was a prematurity issue, but know we can look back and see that it was a texture and smell thing related to Asperger. She cannot tolerate being in the same room with someone who is eating cheerios or puffed wheat. Kind of funny when you think of all the cheerios we hand out to babies.
She also likes very hot tastes, like buffalo chicken wings, and those smells. She gags when she smells the dog come in from the rain...and the smell of the dog's food is pretty bad, too.
I wish we had known more of this when she was little...I could have given her spicy snacks instead of fruit. Lydia lassie

Nolan gets his extraordinary sense of smell from his mother!
I Googled a bit and found some interesting anecdotal stories, but nothing conclusive enough to put here. It was interesting reading, though.
