She went on to became a qualified teacher, public speaker and autism consultant, artist, screenwriter and singer-songwriter with Donna and The Aspinauts. ABOUT THE PRESENTATION:

This film was a presentation given to an LA audience in 2010 when I was unable to fly there to give the presentation in person.

'Autism' is one word but underlying autistic development and behaviour can be a 'fruit salad' of conditions. These conditions will often result in a range of voluntary and involuntary behaviors but how can you tell them apart and what are the low cost/no cost strategies for each?

From this presentation you may:

* Know which behaviors:
- may respond best to environmental changes.
- largely advocacy and understanding
- can be channeled into more constructive directions
- may be best diverted
- can be safely challenged

* Be better able to tell involuntary from voluntary behaviours including:
- involuntary tics from voluntary self stimulatory behaviours (stims)
- involuntary behaviours of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder from an Obsessive Interest as part of Obsesssive Compulsive Personality Disorder
- personality and environmental issues from sensory perceptual disorders

* Form stronger social and emotional bonds based on understanding voluntary from involuntary behaviours.

* Better head off and manage meltdowns.

* Help improve advocacy.

I hope you enjoy the presentation.

Warmly,

Donna Williams, Dip Ed, BA Hons.
Author, artist, autism consultant and public speaker.
